How We Work

Our Model

Our model is built by survivors, shaped by lived experience, and centered on one objective: healing. For the survivor, for the institution, and for the community.

Every decision we make, every conversation we join, and every relationship we build is measured against one question:

Will this move someone closer to healing?

The journey through child sexual abuse is rarely simple. Survivors are often asked to navigate initial disclosure, criminal investigations, civil litigation, institutional responses, and deeply personal healing all at the same time. Institutions are faced with difficult decisions that carry lasting consequences. Attorneys are tasked with balancing legal strategy with the needs of clients who have experienced profound trauma.

These are difficult paths to walk.

We exist to walk beside the people on those paths.

We are not counselors. We are not investigators. We are not attorneys.

We are experienced guides who have walked this road ourselves. Through lived experience, we provide perspective, stability, and a survivor-centered voice while helping create the conditions in which responsibility can lead to accountability, accountability can uncover truth, and truth can make restoration possible.

Walking Beside Survivors

Everything we do begins with the survivor.

Our purpose is to help survivors navigate the difficult landscape that follows disclosure—from the first conversation through criminal proceedings, civil litigation, institutional engagement, and the long process of healing that continues after those events have ended.

Our role is not to make decisions for survivors. It is to help them make thoughtful, informed decisions for themselves.

We openly share our own experiences—the successes, the mistakes, and the lessons we learned along the way—so others can benefit from a path that has already been traveled.

When invited, we join conversations with attorneys, law enforcement, institutions, and other professionals to help survivors feel heard, ask the questions they may not know to ask, and better understand the decisions before them.

Most importantly, we remain present.

Healing does not follow a predictable timeline, and neither does our commitment. When we choose to walk alongside a survivor, we do so with the understanding that this journey may take months or even years. Throughout that time, we strive to be a calm, consistent, honest presence—someone they can return to whenever they need perspective, encouragement, or simply someone who understands.

Our blog is an extension of that commitment. Through experience-based, vulnerable storytelling we share our experiences, we seek to help survivors feel less alone while creating greater understanding among families, institutions, professionals, and communities.

If you are a survivor and would like to get in touch, leave us a message through our contact page and we’ll respond within 24 hours.

Helping Institutions Respond Well

Institutions rarely intend to cause additional harm.

Yet when a survivor comes forward, uncertainty, fear, legal concerns, and internal pressures can unintentionally deepen the wounds that already exist.

Our role is to help institutions see those moments before they happen.

We provide a perspective that few organizations have access to—the eyes and ears of someone who has lived through the process. We help leaders understand how communication, timing, transparency, and decision-making are experienced by survivors long before those decisions become public.

When invited, we participate in conversations, meetings, and planning sessions to help organizations think beyond legal outcomes and toward human outcomes.

Our presence is never intended to create conflict.

We are there to help institutions pursue truth with wisdom, communicate with dignity, and make decisions that preserve the possibility of healing.

Transparency is essential throughout this process. While some conversations must remain confidential, unnecessary secrecy often damages trust and complicates healing. Our role is to provide a thoughtful, confidential perspective that helps institutions understand how their decisions may affect the survivor before those decisions are made.

Our hope is simple:

That institutions become places where accountability strengthens trust rather than threatens it.

If you are an institution and would like to speak, please send a message through our contact page and we’ll respond within 24 hours.

Supporting Attorneys

Attorneys play an essential role in helping survivors pursue justice.

Our role is different.

We complement legal counsel by helping clients navigate the emotional realities that exist alongside the legal process.

Legal counsel carries responsibilities that are necessarily focused on the legal process. Our role allows us to remain focused on the survivor’s experience alongside it. And this is where we can provide help without interference.

Throughout criminal and civil proceedings, survivors often experience frustration, uncertainty, exhaustion, and fear. We provide a consistent sounding board where those thoughts can be processed without disrupting the attorney-client relationship.

We work with both plaintiff and defense counsel when invited, helping everyone involved better understand how communication, process, and decision-making affect the survivor’s experience.

We do not provide legal advice.

We do not interfere with legal strategy.

Instead, we help ensure that survivors feel heard, understood, and supported throughout what is often one of the longest and most difficult seasons of their lives.

If you’re an attorney and would like to speak, please send a message through our contact page and we’ll respond within 24 hours.

Our Commitment

Everything we do is guided by one belief:

The well-being of the individual is more important than the preservation of any institution.

That belief shapes every conversation we enter.

We strive to remain calm without becoming passive.

Bold without becoming abrasive.

Honest without becoming harsh.

Wise without becoming detached.

Charitable without becoming naïve.

Those are not simply values we admire.

They are the standards by which we measure our own work.

Fees

Our work with survivors is always provided free of charge.

No survivor should ever wonder whether support is available because of financial circumstances.

Our work with institutions and professional organizations is offered through a flat-fee consulting engagement that allows us to remain fully present throughout the relationship rather than billing for individual meetings or conversations.

(Additional travel or extraordinary expenses are communicated in advance whenever they arise.)

100% of all consulting fees collected by TIVI are donated as a charitable gift to On River Time, a 501(c)(3) serving youth who are survivors of abuse and neglect through the healing properties of fly-fishing and mentorship.
